GV Relief pitcher throws & Al Oliver hits three-run homer (5 shots)
TRANSCRIPT: REPORTER: Many Sanguillen's fourth inning single gave the Pirates the only run they needed. The hit drove in Willie Stargell who drew a walk off Cubs' starter Rick Reuschel leading off the inning.
The one-nothing score held until the ninth when Rennie Stennett singled-home Mario Mendoza. Like Stargell, Mendoza had reached base on a walk--unlike Stargell, Mendoza is hitting only one-fifty-two.
Relief pitcher Ken Frailing came in and he gave up a three-run homer to Al Oliver. Oliver's ninth of the season.
Pittsburgh has won three in a row, eight out of ten, eleven out of fourteen. The Pirates can win with power--as in Sunday's lapper--or with a combination of pitching and power as in this game.
Ken Brett the winner five-and-two, Reuschel the loser five-and-ten.
