    DURING A FOUR-DAY OFFICIAL VISIT TO SENEGAL WHICH ENDED YESTERDAY (THURSDAY), THE NETHERLANDS FOREIGN MINISTER DR. JOSEPH LUNS DISCUSSED INTERNATIONAL PROBLEMS WITH MEMBERS OF THE HOST GOVERNMENT -- AMONG THEM THE NIGERIA ISSUE, TRADE RELATIONS BETWEEN AFRICAN AND COMMON MARKET COUNTRIES, AND NETHERLANDS INVESTMENT IN SENEGAL.

    AT THE CONCLUSION OF HIS VISIT, DR. LUNS SAID HE HAD DISCUSSED THE DIFFICULTIES ARISING IN THE NEGOTIATIONS FOR THE RENEWAL OF THE YAOUNDE CONVENTION, WHICH REGULATES TRADE RELATION BETWEEN THE SIX COMMON MARKET COUNTRIES AND 18 STATES OF AFRICA AND MALAGASY; THE CONVENTION EXPIRES ON THE 31 MAY. DR. LUNS ALSO REVEALED THAT THE SENEGALESE GOVERNMENT WOULD LIKE EUROPEAN. AND PARTICULARLY NETHERLANDS FIRMS TO SET UP BUSINESSMEN IN SENEGAL.

    THIS WAS BORNE OUT IN AN ADDRESS AT THE OUTSET OF THE VISIT BY SENEGAL'S PRESIDENT SENGHOR, WHEN HE SAID HIS COUNTRY WANTED TO ENLARGED ITS CIRCLE OF FRIENDS TO INCLUDE NOT ONLY FRANCE BUT ALSO HER FIVE PARTNERS. DR. LUNS, IN HIS TURN, PRAISED THE "MODERATE ROLE WHICH SENEGAL PLAYS BETWEEN EUROPE AND AFRICA." HE TOLD THE PRESIDENT THAT HIS COUNTRY PLANNED TO INCREASE ITS FOREIGN AID BY ONE PER CENT.

    AMONG MINISTERS WHO CONFERRED WITH DR. LUNS WERE FOREIGN MINISTER KARIM GAYE, MINISTER FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT HABIB THIAM, MINISTER FOR PLANNING AND INDUSTRY ABDOU DIOUF, AND FINANCE MINISTER JEAN COLLIN.
