An ultra-modern barracks - with many of the luxuries usually associated with a good hotel - was recently opened in Diez, near Limburg. About 1000 officers and men of the new West German Army will live in bright, airy buildings equipped with the most comfortable furnishings and amenities yet enjoyed by the serving soldier.
Each of the five companies will be in a separate block, and six men are allocated to each room. In the basement of each building are first class facilities for washing, drying and ironing clothes, and cleaning fire-arms. All baths and wash-basins have hot and cold running water.
The well-appointed recreation rooms have table tennis, billiards and television. Troops have also a library and a visitors' room where they may entertain their guests.
Well-lit separate dining rooms for officers, non-commissioned officers and other ranks are equipped with modernistic chairs and tables. Each officer is provided with a telephone in his living quarters.
