RED AND BLACK FLAGS FLEW OVER THE ROOF AND HUGE BANNERS ALSO WERE ON DISPLAY PROCLAIMING "WORKERS AND STUDENTS."
    A CROWD OF 3,000 MARCHED INTO THE BUILDING LAST NIGHT AFTER A PERFORMANCE BY THE PAUL TAYLOR BALLET COMPANY, A SPECIAL U.S. CULTURAL PROJECT BEING SHOWN AS PART OF THE INTERNATIONAL SEASON.

    SOME OF THE STUDENTS LEFT THE THEATRE DURING THE NIGHT, BUT THIS MORNING ABOUT 500 PEOPLE -- YOUNG AND OLD SAT IN THE STALLS AND BALCONY SEATS LISTENING TO ORATORS AND ARGUING AMONG THEMSELVES. ACCORDING TO A STATEMENT BY THE OCCUPYING "ODEON COMMITTEE," THE THEATRE HAS BEEN DECLARED A PERMANENT CULTURAL CENTRE WHERE WORKERS AND STUDENTS COULD MEET.

    POLICE STOOD NOT FAR FROM THE ODEON THEATRE, BUT TOOK NO ACTION. TONIGHT THE FRENCH PRIME MINISTER, M. POMPIDOU, APPEARED ON TELEVISION TO TELL THE NATION TO REJECT ANARCHY AND SAID THAT THE GOVERNMENT WOULD DEFEND THE COUNTRY AGAINST ALL EXCESSES.
