    Hans Vultink of the Netherlands retained his French billiards World Championship on saturday (10 August).

    The championship, the 41st., was played in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

    Vultink scored 11 points from a possible 12. Second and third places went to players from he host country. Osvaldo Berardi scored h\nine points and Manuel Girves eight.

    In the final game on Saturday, Vultink defeated Emilio Yazbek of the Argentine.

    The game of Carom, or French billiards, is played on a pocketless table that is twice as long as it is wide. Balls and cues are the same as those used in English billiards.

    The table is divided into four sections and a player scores by hitting the two object balls with his cue ball. When the object balls are crotched (standing in the corner of the table no more than four and a half inches out from either rail), three counts are allowed. The player must then drive an object ball out of the crotch. Failure to do so is a miss and ends the innings.

    Vultink was in devastating form during the Championship. He scored eleven points from a possible twelve.

    In this, his final game on Saturday night, Vultink was drawn against a local player, Emilio Yazbek.

    Vultink completely outclassed his challenger.
