Background: President Hamani Diori of Niger arrived in Lusaka on Sunday (November 18) for a five day State Visit to Zambia - the first head of state from French speaking West Africa to visit the country.
M. Diori received a tumultuous welcome at the airport where he was greeted by President Kaunda, and watched a display of tribal dancing.
On Monday (November 19) President Diori had a-two-and-a-half-hour private meeting with President Kaunda. Observers say the two leaders concentrated in their talks on ways of increasing co-operation between Zambia and Niger.
Later Dr. Kaunda took President Diori on a tour of Lusaka and showed him round Freedom House - the headquarters of Zambia's United National Independence Party.
On Tuesday Dr. Kaunda was to take the Niger President to Livingstone to see the Victoria Falls, and on Wednesday the two Presidents are to visit a mine on Zambia's Copper Belt.
