Major-General H.R.H. Prince Chula-Chakrabongse of Thailand visited the 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards at Wellington Barracks, London, Mar 24. For many years there has been an affiliation between the Grenadier Guards and the Regiment of the Royal Thai Household.
On his arrival at the Barracks, Prince Chula-who lives in Cornwall with his English wife - was greeted by Lieutenant Colonel A. G. Way. MC. Commanding Officer of the 3rd Battalion. Later he met Colonel A. M. Gregory-Hood, OBE. MC. Commanding Officer of the Regiment of Grenadier Guards.
After inspecting barrack rooms, kitchens, restaurant and bathrooms in the recently modernised Barracks, the Prince accompanied a 'New Guard' on its way to relieve the 'Old Guard' in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace.
The 1960 model barrack room, now in use at Wellington Barracks, accommodates three men in new-style luxury - by old Army standards. They feature fitted wardrobes, drop down beds, stainless steel washbasins, and are pleasantly decorated.
