  • Description

The fourth national convention of the Ivory Coast junior chamber of commerce opened in the capital of Abidjan on thursday (24 November). The theme of this year's conference was 'Man and his environment'.

SYNOPSIS: Founded in 1963 the Junior chamber of commerce now has thousands of members, and on this occasion National Assembly president Philippe Yace performed the official opening ceremony. It was an indication of the importance that the Jaycees, as they're called, have assumed in the country.

President Yace's speech was heard by visiting delegates from six other African countries as well as members from the Ivory Coast. The international Jaycee delegates represented Upper Volta, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone. Later in the day President Yace hosted a reception at the National Assembly attended by chamber of commerce members as well as government ministers and officials.

After the President's address delegates who'd achieved the rank of 'senator' in the junior chamber of commerce were presented with awards to mark their promotion. The secretary of the international Jaycees organisation, M. Carroll Bouchard, attended the conference and planned to hold a training session for Ivory Coast members on Sunday (27 November).
