  • Description

Overseas players got their first real look at the course for the 1975 British Open Golf Tournament in Carnoustie, Scotland, on Monday (7 July)
The open, which begins on Wednesday, has attracted the usual top quality field.

Amongst the starters are Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller, Gary Players, Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer and the Britain's hope, Peter Oosterhuis.

Those that had automatically qualified for the tournament had their first practice round on the par-72 course on Monday.

All agreed that the Carnoustie layout was a challenging, if not hostile test.

American Jack Nicklaus seems likely to start favourite for the Open...he's won it twice previously. South African champion Gary Player is also well fancied, he won the last British open played at Carnoustie in 1968.
