    THE NEW ABBEY THEATRE IN DUBLIN - THE HOME OF THE IRISH NATIONAL THEATRE SOCIETY - WAS REBORN YESTERDAY (MONDAY), EXACTLY FIFTEEN YEARS AFTER THE ORIGINAL BUILDING WAS BURNT OUT ON JULY 18, 1951.

    THE NEW ABBEY, TO WHICH PLAYERS WILL RETURN AFTER A LONG EXILE AT THE QUEEN'S THEATRE, IN DUBLIN, HAS BEEN BUILT AT A COST OF GBP500,000. THE NEW PLAYHOUSE COVERING THE ASHES OF THE OLD, IS ONE OF THE MOST FULLY AUTOMATED IN EUROPE.

    PUSH-BUTTON CONTROLS CAN RAISE OR LOWER THE THREE SECTIONS OF THE STAGE, MOVE SCENERY, AND GIVE PRODUCERS INFINITE SCOPE WITH LIGHTING AND SETS. THE AUDITORIUM SEATS 630 PEOPLE IN LUXURY, AND IN THE BASEMENT THERE IS A SMALLER THEATRE CALLED THE "PEACOCK", WHICH HAS BEEN BUILT AS A THEATRICAL WORKSHOP.

    PRESIDENT DE VALERA ATTENDED THE GALA OPENING YESTERDAY, (MONDAY) AT WHICH THE HISTORY OF THE ABBEY THEATRE - THE CRADLE OF IRISH DRAMA - WAS REMEMBERED IN A SHOW ENTITLED "RECALL THE YEARS".
