Farit Ziganghirov, number 5, put the Soviet ahead 1-0 after he scored following a short corner. Alexander Goncharov scored from close-range to put the Soviets ahead 2-0. The lone Poland goal came after a Polish player was fouled near the Soviet goal. Poland's number 8, Zbignew Rahvalski, scored after a short corner awarded because of the foul.
