In Singapore on Friday (20 April), Asia's top riders competed for the annual motor-cycle Grand Prix, A field of Japanese, Australian and New Zealand riders began the race in fine weather with just a touch of moisture on the three-mile circuit.

New Zealander Ginger Molloy, riding a massivo 750 c.c. Kawasaki, weaved his way into the leading bunch early in the race.

There were few spills during the race although Australian rider Brian Hindle, who had won pole position on the grid, fell on the 15th lap shortly after equalling the course record.

Molloy overcame a delay of almost a minute when he stopped to refulo and then caught the leaders again in the remaining laps. He finished only a few feet ahead of Japan's Motohashi to take the chequered flag. Hie final lap broke the course record and he set a new time of two minutes 15.1 seconds.

Molloy has been racing professionally since 1963. Friday's win at Singapore was his first big victory since he entered the Asian circuit.
