  • Description

Judy Garland used to sing a sentimental song about a rainbow. But tax collectors are not notoriously sentimental people and on 3rd, April they suggested to Judy that they were only interested in the pot of gold.

It happened at the State Supreme Court in New York. Judy and her lawyer were escorted there by the sheriff. New York tax agents wanted to talk to her about a matter of a little over eight thousand dollars in back taxes.

Judy said she didn't have a thousand dollars. Also, she has been out of work since Sunday, 31st. March, when she quarrelled with the management of a Brooklyn night club, and staged a spectacular walk out in the middle of her act.

It was suggested that Judy's jewelry, including an eighteen thousand dollar bracelet, might do for security, until she pays her taxes. The singer agreed and the party made off for her hotel. There, the jewelry was collected in a suitcase and taken for safe-keeping by the tax agents.
