  • Description

Chelsea, battling to improve its position in the first division could only force a one-all draw against Everton at Stamford Bridge today (Saturday). Chelsea are fifth bottom in the First Division league table, but their performance today was equal to almost Third Division. More than 34,000 people attended today's match.

Chelsea played valiantly but could not match the superior defence of Everton particularly the goalkeeper Gordon West, Everton's best player. The score at half-time was nil-all.

Play around the goalmouth in the second half was tight, but it was Alan Ball who made the break by passing Bonnetti's defence to put Everton in front. Chelsea equalised in a penalty later in the second half.
