    King Hussein of Jordan continued high level discussions in Washington with senior officials of President Nixon's administration at a meeting over luncheon on Wednesday (7 February) with United States Secretary of Defence, Elliot Richardson.

    No information was released on the discussions, but it was thought that the King and the Pentagon chief talked of the level and nature of new arms shipments to Jordan.

    On Tuesday, King Hussein was given assurances from President Nixon that Jordan would continue to receive economic and military support. The King was quoted in a Washington newspaper as saying that he had been promised two squadrons of Northrop F-5E Freedom Fighter jets.

    During his visit to the US, King Hussein also had discussions on the prospects for a Middle East settlement.
