Background: The President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Maj-General Iskandar Mirza took salute at the third Republic day Armed Forces ceremonial parade at the Pole ground, Karachi, on sunday the 23rd March, 58.
For the first time in the history of Pakistan three foreign contingents from Iran, Iraq and Turkey participated in the national parade. This show perfect unity of Muslim Baghdad Pact countries as said by Maj-Gen Mirza.
The parade was drawn from the units and contingents of the Pakistan Army, Navy and the Air Force. A number of battalions from some of the world -famous regiments of the Pakistan Army including the Punjab, Baluch and the Frontier Force Regiments formed the bulk of the parade.
Trumpeters sounded the fanfare as the President escorted by his Body guards drove in state into the parade ground. The Finance Minister of Pakistan received the President and Begum Mirza. The President was then introduced to the services chiefs of Pakistan Armed forces. As the President Took his place at the saluting dais, the parade gave the President salute. The President then went to review the parade. The parade started with a grand all jet fly-past in which fifty five Pakistan Air Force and Twelve Turkish F 84s participated. The March past followed the President's address.
Pipe and brass bands of Pakistan Army, Navy, and Air Forces were in attendance.
The parade was witnessed by the large crowd, Ministers, Diplomats and high civil and military officials.
