  • Description

'Rock-and-Roll' star Tommy Steele, his sister Sandra and comedian Benny Hill were busy at London's Cad by Hall, Nov 26, helping to prepare a giant Christmas pudding for the Lord Mayor.

Made from 120,000 currants, 25,000 sultanas and 7,000 raisins, all fresh from Australia, the massive 160-pounder will be presented to Lord Mayor Sir Edmund Stockdale by the Australian High Commissioner sir Eric Harrison at Australia House, Dec. 10.

Tommy Steele - who leaves London in February for a three-month tour of Australia - and benny Hill also stirred the mixture for 100 smaller puddings, to be sent on behalf on Australia's dried fruit growers to cities throughout the United Kingdom. Mayors will pass on the puddings to local charities, old people's clubs and hospitals.

Altogether, Australia's dried fruit growers will give a helping of Christmas pudding to some 10,000 people in Britain this year.
