    GREEK AIR, SEA AND LAND FORCES HAVE BEEN PUT ON THE ALERT FOLLOWING YESTERDAY'S WARNING FLIGHTS OVER CYPRUS BY FOUR TURKISH FIGHTER AIRCRAFT. THE CYPRIOT FOREIGN MINISTER HAS SENT A "STRONG PROTEST" TO THE TURKISH GOVERNMENT AND THE GREEK CYPRIOT UNITED NATIONS DELEGATE HAS BEEN INSTRUCTED TO REPORT THE "NEW VIOLATION OF CYPRUS AIRSPACE".

    THERE WAS ALSO HEAVY FIRING ON THE ISLAND YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) WHEN GREEK AND TURKISH CYPRIOTS CLASHED IN NICOSIA AND IN NORTH-WEST CYPRUS. FILM SHOWS POLICE REINFORCEMENTS ARRIVING IN THE MANSURA AREA AFTER GREEKS AND TURKS EXCHANGED FIRE BETWEEN THE VILLAGES OF PAKHYAMMOS AND KOKKINA. THERE WERE ALSO REPORTS OF MORTARS BEING FIRED SOUTH-WEST OF THE VILLAGE OF MOSPHLERI IN THE SAME AREA.

    (REPORTS FROM TURKEY SAID THAT THE WARNING FLIGHTS OVER WESTERN CYPRUS WERE MADE IN VIEW OF RECENT EVENTS ON THE ISLANDS. THE REPORTS SAID ALL FRIENDLY STATES WERE INFORMED BEFORE THE FLIGHTS WERE MADE.
