    Former world chess champion, Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union, has gone to live in France fora year. Spassky's visit was only allowed by Soviet authorities after he gave an undertaking that he would not play competitive chess.

    SYNOPSIS: Spassky arrived in France two weeks ago with his French wife. They are staying at her mother's home in the Meudon suburb of Paris. Spassky told newsman that he had fought against the pre-condition for his exist visa for several months but had finally decided to comply. He has been in difficulties with Soviet authorities since losing his world chess title to American Bobby Fischer four years ago. Spassky said he believed it would have been in the interests of the Soviet state to allow him to take part in international tournaments during his stay.

    Spassky's arrival in France came less than two months after Soviet Grand Master, Viktor Korchnoi, announced in the Netherlands that he would not return to the Soviet Union. Korchnoi is currently rated number two in the chess world.
