  • Description

Representatives of Niger's new government -- which came to power following a military coup on April 15 -- have been in Paris establishing relations with the French authorities. The coup toppled the Government of President Hamani Diori.

On Thursday (9 May) Mr. Sani Souda Sido -- Vice President of the Niger Supreme Military Council -- and Captain Djermakoye Adamou -- the new Minister of Foreign Affairs -- visited French Foreign Minister, M. Michel Jobert.

Niger is a former French territory and France imports large amounts of its uranium. These supplies are important to the French nuclear programme, and the price is expected to be discussed by the two countries at some time.
