  • Description

Several hundred secondary school pupils marched through the streets of Paris yesterday (1 December) to the Ministry of Education in protest against the expulsion of three pupils from the Lycee Montaigne. Lines of police guarded the building.

The protest is against more than the expulsion....it is aimed at a government directive known as the "circulaire Guichard", after Mr. Olivier Guichard, Minister of Education. The directive was sent secretly to headmasters throughout France at the beginning of term. The next day, it was in all the newspapers.

The directive called for stricter disciplinary measures in the lycees. The pupils expelled from Montaigne organised a meeting last week against the directive, and for this they were expelled on Tuesday.

The sound track includes good chanting and singing.
