  • Description

The central committee of the communist party of India which is meeting in Trivandrum, from 26th June, has become important on the wake of the Kerala situation. The meeting which was to be held at Madurai, in Madras State, has been shifted to Trivandrum to enable the Kerala ministers to participate and also to enable the members of the party to hear and see things first hand. The meeting is in secret session in Trivandrum to decide what steps it should take to counter the new strategy devised by the apportion party. The opposition party have decided to order all their members who are elected to village counsels, municipal, and state legislature, to resign. By this dramatic steps they intend to show that democracy no longer functions in Kerala. They hope that this will force the central government to impose President's rule in the state, and the holding of fresh elections in which they will oppose the communists as united front and secure the majority which will enable them to form the government. It is also understood that this meeting may decide the future of the ministry's activities with regard to the agitation in Kerala. The communists are also discussing what measures they should take in other states as a measure of retaliating against the opposition campaign in Kerala.

(The first day of the meeting the cameramen were not allowed to take pictures, but on persuasion they were allowed to take pictures the second day, before the meeting commenced).
