Background: THE 22ND EUROPEAN WATER SKI-ING CHAMPIONSHIPS, BEING HELD AT BEDFONT, NEAR LONDON, ENDED TODAY WITH SPECTACULAR PERFORMANCES BY BRITAIN'S JEANNETTE STEWART-WOOD AND ITALY'S 16-YEAR-OLD ROBY ZUCCHI. THE SUN SHONE FOR THE FINAL DAY OF THE FOUR-DAY CHAMPIONSHIPS, BUT THE DIFFICULT WIND CONDITIONS TROUBLED SOME COMPETITORS.

LORD SNOWDON, WHO IS PATRON OF THE BRITISH WATER SKI FEDERATION, WATCHED THE DAY'S EVENTS AND LATER PRESENTED CUPS AND MEDALS TO THE WINNERS.

THE WOMEN'S JUMPING DEVELOPED INTO A BATTLE BETWEEN MISS STEWART-WOOD AND MISS SYLVIE HULSEMANN, OF LUXEMBOURG, WHO WAS SECOND, WITH MISS ELAINE BORTER, OF SWITZERLAND, THIRD.

MISS STEWART-WOOD FINISHED WITH A SPECTACULAR JUMP OF 91 FEET. MISS HULSEMANN HAD EARLIER TAKEN THE WOMEN'S TRICKS EVENT.

THE MEN'S JUMPING WAS WON BY PIERRE CLERC, OF SWITZERLAND, FOR THE THIRD SUCCESSIVE YEAR, FROM KARL BENZINGER, OF WEST GERMANY, AND JEAN-JACQUES POTIER, OF FRANCE.

THE YOUNG ITALIAN CONTESTANT ZUCCHI, WHO IS BLIND IN ONE EYE, GAVE A PARTICULARLY SPECTACULAR PERFORMANCE IN THE MEN'S SLALOM, AFTER WINNING THE MEN'S OVERALL TITLE YESTERDAY. HOWEVER, HE WAS UNPLACED IN THE MEN'S JUMPING FINAL.
