  • Description

The first ever quads born in Greece arrived last month at a clinic near the Greek Capital. Mother and children are all doing well.

Despina Spyridonos aged 32 already has another child, a three year old girl, who was left in the care of 'dad', 37 year-old Nicholas Spyridonos, a driving instructor, during the two-hour birth.

The total weight of the three boy one girl quads is nine and a half kilos, no mean weight to carry about.

Now the Spyridonos family is worried as to how a poor driving instructor will manage to keep such a large family on four pounds a week. The Institute for the Protection of Children has taken the new-born babes under its wing and they have been transferred to the Queen's Foundation 'Mitera' (Mother) at Ayici Anarghyroi in the suburbs of Athens. Local press is trying hard to interest various charitable organisations to help the family, and the National Institute has given Spyridonos a second hand jeep so that he can work on his own account as a driving instructor. The house in which he lives has been deemed unhealthy by the National Institute.
