    President Anwar Sadat of Egypt told the parliamentary body off the Federation of Arab Republic - Egypt, Libya and Syria - on Thursday (12 October) that the existence of the federation, and the proposed merger of Libya and Egypt, reflects Arab determination to repel Israeli aggression.

    Earlier President Sadat had opened a secret session of the Assembly.

    A statement issued after the three-hour session said the Egyptian leader had spoken about Arab issues, including the conflict with Israel. But the statement gave no details.

    The Assembly - composed of 60 deputies - 20 from each country - will resume on Saturday to discuss federal policy.

    SYNOPSIS: President Anwar Sadat of Egypt opened a secret session of the parliament of the Federation of Arab Republics on Thursday. The Assembly - consisting of sixty deputies, twenty each from the three members of the Federation, Egypt, Libya and Syria - heard the Egyptian leader speak on a number of Arab issues - among them the conflict with Israel. President Sadat said the existence of the Federation and the proposed merger of his country and Libya were evidence of Arab determination to repel what he called Israeli aggression. An official statement gave no further details.

    The Assembly was scheduled to meet again on Saturday to discuss federal policy.
