    THE MEETING HAS ATTRACTED SOME OF THE WORLD'S TOP PROFESSIONAL RIDERS. POST, AGED 34, AND NICKNAMED THE FLYING DUTCHMAN HAS WON 42 SIX-DAY TITLES. HIS PARTNER, SERCU, IS THE WORLD SPRINT CHAMPION.

    THE MADISON IS ONE OF THIRTY SEVEN EVENTS CONTESTED DURING THE SO-CALLED SIX-DAY RACING. IT TAKES THE FORM OF A RELAY, WITH EACH TEAM RIDER COMPETING IN ALTERNATE LAPS. THE EVENT COVERS AN HOUR OR DISTANCES OF ABOUT 30 MILES (48 K.M.).

    THE MAIN COMPETITION FOR POST AND SERCU CAME FROM THE DANISH PAIR, PALLE LYKKE, FORMER EUROPEAN MADISON CHAMPION, AND FREDDY EUGEN, FORMER DANISH PURSUIT CHAMPION.

    EIGHT NATIONS HAVE BEEN REPRESENTED IN THE SIX-DAY RACE - BRITAIN, ITALY, WEST GERMANY, BELGIUM, SWITZERLAND, HOLLAND, DENMARK AND AUSTRALIA.

    SERCU AND POST WENT ON TO WIN THE SIX-DAY RACE DEFEATING THE GERMAN PAIR, DIETER KEMPER AND HORST OLDENBURG IN THE FINAL EVENT - ALSO A MADISON RACE.
