    SOUTH KOREAN TROOPS CONCLUDED THEIR FIVE-WEEK LONG OPERATION - THE BIGGEST OF THE VIETNAM WAR TODAY (TUESDAY). THE MILITARY MANOEUVRES HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED IN THE COASTAL PHU YEN PROVINCE, 250 MILES NORTHEAST OF SAIGON.

    THIS FILM SHOWS THE LAST PHASE OF THE OPERATION CODE-NAMED OH JAK KYO. LAUNCHED ON MARCH THE EIGHTH IT ENABLED THE KOREANS TO LINK UP THE OPERATIONAL AREAS OF THEIR DIVISIONS.

    IN THEIR SWEEP THROUGH THE PROVINCE, THE KOREANS SUFFERED LIGHT CASUALTIES. HOWEVER, THEY REPORTED HAVING KILLED 433, CAPTURED 148, DETAINED 252 SUSPECTS AND SEIZED MORE THAN 300 WEAPONS. IN ADDITION, THEY TOOK UNDER THEIR WING 85 VIETCONG DEFECTORS.

    AMONG THE DEAD WERE SOME NORTH VIETNAMESE REGULARS, THEY HAD BEEN SUPPORTING THE VIETCONG WHO WERE DRIVEN INTO THIS SMALL AREA BY PREVIOUS KOREAN OPERATIONS.

    AS A RESULT OF THE OPERATION, KOREAN INFANTRYMEN WILL CONTROL A VITAL STRIP OF COASTAL TERRAIN ABOUT 250 MILES LONG.

    THROUGHOUT THE OPERATION, THE KOREANS WERE SUPPORTED BY AMERICAN ARTILLERY, AIRCRAFT AND HELICOPTERS. THE CAPTURED VIETCONG, SOME WOUNDED, WERE HELICOPTERED TO A CAMP FOR PRISONERS.
