    Europe's biggest suspension bridge - slung across the Seine Estuary near Le Havre to provide a quick link between the industrial North and the agricultural South, is to be opened July 11.

    The amount of cable used is almost twice the length of the world's diameter. The two pylons, from which the bridge is slung, are almost twice the height of Notre Dame. The road is 50 metres from the water, the bridge is 1000 metres' long. Work began on it March 1956.
