Background: Representatives from Egypt, Syria and Libya attended the final meeting of the Confederation of the National Assembly in Cairo on Wednesday (9 May).
The Confederation was called together when the recent fighting broke out between Palestinian guerrillas and government forces in the Lebanon.
At the final meeting, a message from Lebanon's President Suleiman Franjieh was read out to the delegates. The President thanked the Assembly for its quick diplomatic action in sending a delegation to Lebanon to mediate in the crisis.
Since the fighting between the Palestinians and the Lebanese Army broke out, Egypt, Libya and Syria have made diplomatic approaches to the Lebanese to end the conflict. Colonel Khedakki, the Libyan leader, has said the Libya supported the Palestinian commandos in Lebanon.
An Egyptian government spokesman said Egypt also strongly supported the Palestinians.
