  • Description

Sixty-six veteran motor-cars from Great Britain; Sweden; Norway; Holland: Denmark and Germany, chugged away from Copenhagen's Ermitage July 30 on stage one of the first Scandinavian International Veteran Car Rally.

Prince Axel, brother of King Frederick of Denmark, dropped the starters flag and sent the glittering contestants on their way to prove there is 'life in the old car yet'.

It was an observation stage, with drivers not knowing the course beforehand, but being directed at various check-points. Through beautiful wooded country and along some not-so-smooth roads, these 'Monarchs of the Road' drove majestically to the end of the stage at Frederiksborg Castle in the north of Sjelland.

Few of the veterans gave trouble as they traversed some steep hills, and those that were forced to stop for attention..and breath..all finished the course. The oldest car entered was an 1898 Oldsmobile driven by a Dane.

Results will not be made known until the end of the second stage to be held in Sweden Aug 1.
