Background: Heads of State of several African nations attended the celebrations of the 12th Anniversary of the Independence of logo in Lome on Thursday, April 27.
Togolese President Etienne Eyadema played host to Presidents Ahmadou Ahidjo of Cameroun, Sangoule Lamizane of Upper Volta, Seewoosagur Ramgoolam of Mautitius, Hubert Maga of Dahomey and Hamani Diori of Niger. All had just assisted to the 6th Summit Meeting of OCAMM in the Togolese capital.
Highlight of the celebrations was the military parade--said to be the biggest--ever held in Togo--in which West-German and French-made weapons, armoured cars, troop transporters, tanks and radio equipment formed part of the displays. Twenty thousand people are estimated to have watched the parade.
