  • Description

At the meeting of the United Nations Security Council in Addis Ababa, representatives of two African nationalist organisations have spoken on the situation in Southwest Africa, and Rhodesia.

Southwest Africa was discussed by Mr Peter Mueshihange - Secretary for Foreign Affairs in the South-West African People's Organisation (SWAPO).

And a representative of the Zimbabwe African National Union(ZANU) Mr M.K.H. Hamadziripi spoke on Rhodesia.

Mr Mueshiange's organisation, SWAPO, has its roots in the Ovambo tribe of southwest Africa. Many tribesmen stopped work in towns and factories during the past few weeks in response to a call from SWAPO and as a protest against the South African government's contract labour system.

Mr Mueshihange warned Security Council delegates about the strength of his organisation.
