    BRIGADIER AFRIFA, THE MILITARY LEADER OF GHANA WHO TOOK OVER AFTER A BLOODLESS COUP IN 1966, RECENTLY VISITED MEMBERS OF THE WESTERN HOUSE OF CHIEFS IN TAKORADI.

    HE TOLD THE CHIEFS THAT THE RULING NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL WAS ENCOURAGED BY THE SENSE OF MATURITY SHOWN BY THE POLITICAL PARTIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. HE WAS COMMENTING ON THE MANNER IN WHICH POLITICIANS HAVE CONDUCTED THEIR ACTIVITIES LEADING UP TO THE GENERAL ELECTIONS WHICH ARE SCHEDULED FOR LATER THIS MONTH. HE APPEALED FOR A PEACEFUL ATMOSPHERE DURING THE FORTHCOMING ELECTIONS.

    THE BRIGADIER WAS ACCOMPANIED BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE WESTERN REGION COMMITTEE OF ADMINISTRATION LT. COLONEL COKER-APPIAH. HE WAS WELCOMED BY COMMISSIONERS AND SENIOR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS. NANA KWAMINA ANAISIE, PRESIDENT OF THE WESTERN REGION HOUSE OF CHIEFS, PRESENTED GIFTS TO BRIGADIER AFRIFA.

    LATER PRESIDENT ANAISIE APPEALED TO THE N.L.C. TO ENSURE THAT THE PROPOSED GHANA-IVORY COAST ROAD PASSES THROUGH THE REGION TO AID ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
