    LIFE HAS RETURNED TO NORMAL IN BAGDAD, FOLLOWING LAST WEEK'S COUP AGAINST THE RULING BA'ATH PARTY.PRIVATE CARS AND TAXIS ARE AGAIN ON THE STREETS, AND THE CURFEW, BETWEEN 7 P.M.AND 7 A.M., HAS BEEN LIFTED.

    IRAQ'S PRESIDENT, FIELD-MARSHAL ABDEL SALAM AREF, BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COUP, ANNOUNCED THE APPOINTMENT OF LIEUTENANT-GENERAL TAHER YAHIA, AS THE NEW PRIME MINISTER AN 8-MA CABINET.

    AT A PRESS CONFERENCE IN THE NEW PRESIDENTIAL PALACE, PRESIDENT AREF DECLARED THAT NO POLITICAL PARTIES WOULD BE ALLOWED IN IRAQ FOR THE TIME BEING.

    LATER, IN A TELEVISION BROADCAST, GENERAL YAHIA, STATED THAT HIS GOVERNMENT INTENDED TO STEER A MIDDLE COURSE IN FOREIGN RELATIONS, AND WOULD WELCOME ANY AID WHICH WAS UNCONDITIONAL AND WOULD NOT DAMAGE IRAQ'S INDEPENDENCE.

    HE ADDED THAT IRAQ INTENDED TO PURSUE A POLICY OF FRIENDLY RELATIONS WITH OTHER ARAB STATES, PARTICULARLY EGYPT, SYRIA AND YEMEN AND OTHER COUNTRIES FOLLOWING WHAT HE TERMED: "THE REVOLUTIONARY WAY".
