POLICE AND FIREMEN WERE QUICKLY ON THE SCENE -- BUT THERE WAS NEVER ANY HOPE OF SURVIVORS. FIREMEN BATTLED FOR HOURS AS PETROL SPREADING FROM THE WRECKAGE TURNED THE FIELD INTO A BLAZING INFERNO. THE AIRLINER BELONGED TO THE WEST GERMAN INTERNATIONAL AIRLINE, LUFTHANSA.
