  • Description

The American way of life has been given a boost in Kenya with the opening of an improved American Cultural Centre in Nairobi. Washington's Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Mr. David Newsom, declared the new facilities open yesterday (Wednesday).

Equipped with a free library of near 7,000 volumes, the centre also provides facilities for film shows, lectures and exhibitions.

Mr. Newsom is currently on a tour of African countries. His visit to Kenya included talks with President Jomo Kenyatta and a confrontation with Kenyan newsmen in Nairobi -- during which he claimed that Washington's purchase of Rhodesian chrome had been dictated by military necessity.
