  • Description

DEMONSTRATIONS WERE HELD IN MUNICH AND DACHAU AT THE WEEKEND TO PROTEST AGAINST THE GROWTH OF NEO-NAZIISM IN WEST GERMANY. SURVIVORS OF NAZI CONCENTRATION CAMPS WERE AMONG THE PEOPLE TAKING PART IN THE TWO-DAY PROTEST, ORGANISED BY THE WEST GERMANY NON-PARTY ORGANISATION, DEMOCRATIC ACTION.

ON SATURDAY (JUNE 22) THE PROTEST STARTED IN MUNICH WITH A MARCH. THE PROTEST WAS CALLED -- "EUROPEAN RALLY AGAINST NEO-NAZIISM AND FASCISM".

MIDDLE AGED MEN FROM ALMOST ALL EAST AND WEST EUROPEAN COUNTRIES CARRIED BANNERS DENOUNCING THE EXTREME RIGHT-WING NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY. A DECLARATION ISSUED BY DEMOCRATIC ACTION STATED THAT NEO-NAZIISM COULD ONLY BE COMBATTED SUCCESSFULLY WITH THE ESTABLISHMENT OF FULL CO-MANAGEMENT IN STATE AND SOCIETY, IN THE ECONOMY, FACTORIES AND UNIVERSITIES AS WELL AS WITH DEMOCRATIC CONTROL OF THE GERMAN ARMED FORCES. IT DEMANDED THE DISSOLUTION OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND A BAN ON ALL NEO-NAZI ORGANISATIONS AND PUBLICATIONS.

TODAY (SUNDAY) THE PROTEST CONTINUED WITH A MARCH BY MORE THAN 5,000 PEOPLE THROUGH DACHAU CAMP. AGAIN, CONCENTRATION CAMP UNIFORMS WERE WORN BY PREVIOUS INMATES OF DACHAU AND OTHER CONCENTRATION CAMPS.

WOMEN WORE BLACK TO SIGNIFY THAT THEY LOST A FRIEND OR RELATIVE IN THE NAZI DEATH CAMPS.
