Background: German rocket firing - formidable the last war - was in evidence again, in very different way, Celle, near Hanover, August 21. members of the German Rocket Society fired 10 "postal rockets", containing about 5,000 letters, postcards and packages, for a distance of about 1 1/2 miles at an altitude of 1700 feet.

These small rockets - nearly 4 feet long - were made only of wood and paper. Halfway during the flight they released tiny parachutes which sailed gently down to earth with their consignment of mail - perhaps indicating thee future method of postal deliveries.

The Rocket Society - some 800 strong - will open its 9th international rocket and space travel conference at the end of August. in a few weeks time the Society hooke to put a meteorological missile into orbit.
