    A JORDANIAN MILITARY SPOKESMAN SAID YESTERDAY (1 JANUARY) THAT THREE CIVILIANS WERE KILLED AND SIX WOUNDED WHEN ISRAELI GUNS FIRED ON A REFUGEE CAMP ON THE EAST BANK OF THE JORDAN EARLY ON MONDAY MORNING. FOUR OF THE SIX WOUNDED WERE LATER TAKEN TO NEARBY SALT HOSPITAL FOR EMERGENCY TREATMENT.

    AMONG THE CASULATIES WERE THREE MEMBERS OF ONE FAMILY - THE FATHER DIED, THE MOTHER WAS SERIOUSLY WOUNDED, AND THE SIX-YEAR OLD SON RECEIVED LEG INJURIES. THE JORDANIAN GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCED THAT IT HAD INSTRUCTED ITS UNITED NATIONS REPRESENTATIVE TO INFORM MEMBERS OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL OF THE 'ISRAELI AGGRESSION'.

    THE MILITARY SPOKESMAN SAID ISRAELI FIELD-GUNNERS HAD OPENED FIRE ON THE WADI AL-YABIS CAMP FROM THE WEST BANK OF THE RIVER JORDAN. A SPOKESMAN FOR THE ISRAELIS IN TEL AVIV REPORTED A TWO-HOUR DUEL IN THE SAME AREA, SAID TO BE IN ANSWER TO JORDANIAN MACHINEGUN FIRE.
