TRANSCRIPT SEQ 2: TRUDEAU: "I think it's a very significant move and I'm very pleased this large major gap in dialogue between countries has been broach???
REPORTER: Can you say, Sir, whether Canada has directly or indirectly get any role to play in paving the way for the announcement?
TRUDEAU: No, none at all that I can see. I think there's an understanding growing in the world that we couldn't freeze Peking Government out of world affairs and I'm very glad that the United States has taken this bold and decisive step.
REPORTER: Do you feel that you've out-plugged them -- do you feel that Canada's recognition of Communist China contributed in any way to this?
TRUDEAU: I really couldn't say. I think the Americans are well able to make decisions like this on their own. I think they must have been thinking about this for some time, and it must have come as a nature development. I'm very happy about it.
REPORTER: Prime Minister, will this change your plans in any way at the timing of your own visit to Peking? Would you like to go before or after President Nixon.?
TRUDEAU: Well, there has been no timing set as you know. We received an invitation just a few weeks ago and we're considering it. Naturally I would be happy to go there but travelling is not a very popular thing for a Canadian Prime Minister and I may not be able to go as soon as I would like.
REPORTER: Is there any possibility at all that you'll beat Mr Nixon to Peking?
TRUDEAU: I don't think the timing will be determined by whatever timing he has in mind. I don't even know what his timing is. I don't think this kind of consideration will enter into the picture to trying to beat anybody".
