The President of Djibouti, Hassan Gouled, had talks with the President of Egypt, Anwar Sadat on Sunday (14 August). It was Mr. Gouled's first official visit to Egypt.
SYNOPSIS: Mr. Gouled was met by Mr. Sadat and later by the Egyptian Premier, Mamdouh Salem. Mr. Gouled and his party were in Egypt for a two-day visit and after the initial meeting of the two groups of officials they soon got down to talks.
Mr. Gouled took with him a strong delegation for the Egyptian meeting. The two leaders and their officials began talks over a working dinner, shortly after the arrival of Mr. Gouled's party. Thew new government of Djibouti is pledged to democratic rule, and positive neutrality and non-alignment in foreign policy.
Egypt's Deputy Premier and Minister for War, General Al-Gamassi, and Deputy Premier and Foreign affairs Minister, Mr. Ismail Fahmi, formed part of the host country's contingent. The Republic of Djibouti was admitted to the Organisation of African Unity and is currently under recommendation for admission to the United Nations.
