  • Description

The Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowan this week (March 17) attended the first agricultural show to be held in the country since the drought which lasted three years in some areas.

The show, combined with a trade fair, was held at Bagauda, about 65 kilometres from the ancient city of Kano, in the northern part of Nigeria.

General Gowan spent more than an hour inspecting exhibits at the show and talking to farmers.

He told farmers that modern agriculture and its technology required some form of basis education for those using it, and urged the farmers to send their children to school.

He also said the farmers should attend adult education classes to acquire the knowledge that would help them improve their yields.

General Gowan said that after seeing the effects of the drought, he was highly impressed with what he saw at the show.
