Renault determined to improve on their disappointing form in Formula One racing in recent years have unveiled the car they hope will bring them success...the new turbocharged Elf R.S 10.

SYNOPSIS: The R.S. 10 is an updated version of the R.S.01 which French driver Jean-Pierre Jabouille and Rene Arnoux have raced with our success in the Argentine, Brazilian and South African Grand Prix' this Formula One season. The Renault turbocharged engine is the smallest by half in Grand Prix racing. Formula One rules state that a turbocharged power unit cannot be more than one and a half litres in size, while engines using conventional gravity fed fuel systems can reach three litres. According to Reuters there's sound business reason behind Renault's decision to opt for the small engine. They want to carry out an exhaustive examination of the principles of turbo charging with a view to fitting them to their family cars in 1980's.

But there have been problems...the small engine undergoes a great deal of stress at high speed and there's consequent overheating which has forced the earlier Renault Elf out of many grand Prix races. It's hoped that the R.S.10 will have its first race in the Spanish Grand Prix at the end of April.
