  • Description

After he was elected thanks to a coalition of center and left parties, 1946, former President Gabriel Gonzales Videla (CQ) put the communist party out of law. Since that day, the secretary general of the party started his life in the underground. The whole Chilean political police was after him. It was all the time heard of him, his work, but he was like a ghost for the government. First time authorities had contact with him, was last Saturday underwriting his death certificates and permission of Sanitary Office for the burial.

But his death has a special significance on these days. President Ibanez, now in office, speaked (CQ) up his way to presidence using the now old problem of abolishing the LAW OF DEFENSE OF DEMOCRACY (CQ) (outlawing communism). But he did not accomplish. Next September there will be again (as each six years) elections for a new president of Chile. The right wing is divided between the high interests of opposed monopolies and interests. A new word has appeared: "social-christianism", with - of course - another candidate and the forces of center and left are divided between RADICAL PARTY, the party that made a president of Gonzales Videla that outloawed communism and socialists and communists.

If the communists open their way to legality, they will have enough votes as to carry to their side socialists and Radicals, taking the lead of center and left forces.

After twelve years of silence, with the occassion of the funeral of Galo Gonzales (CQ) (Just a coincidence of family name with former president Gonzales Videla) communists asked their people to show their faces and banners in the streets. From ten to fifteen thousand of them, carrying every kind of communist flags or signs, walked in the funeral singing the national anthem, "The International", shouting evidently in the direction of coming elections, saluting with their fists in the high (CQ). At the same time all the leaders of communism came out from the sheadows (CQ). AN NOBODY SAID NOTHING. NOBODY (CQ). not even the newspapers of the right. There were not policemen in the street where the funeral advanced. Only some policemen were located in the roofs surrounding the graveyard just for IF. (CQ)
These last days, RUSSIA (CQ) offered to buy 10 thousand tons of chilean copper wire. Red China is asking to buy 5000 tons (CQ) of natural Nitrate and communism is gaining everyday in the way of public opinion. Regarding the next coming elections. What happened yesterday in the funeral of Galo Gonzalez (CQ) means a lot in the advance of communism in Latin America, where Chile has long be (CQ) regarded as a democratic country, with no revolutions and a guide in social progress and political maturity.
