Rain marred the May Day Rally in Delhi. Nearly 30,000 workers gathered from all over India marched through the streets of New Delhi. Krishna Mennon together with the Communist leader S.A. Dange lead the procession. Krishna Mennon is currently a candidate for a Parliamentary Bye election from Midnapore in West Bengal on behalf of the Communist backed United Front. As the processionists marched, they shouted slogans demanding the change of Central Government of India ie the fall of Indira Gandhi government.
A notable event today was that the Trade Union wing of the right wing Hindu Jana Sangh party also joined the rally. Its workers carried yellow flags and shouted slogans reminding workers to first worship India and remember the sacrifices of ordinary workers in the cause of labour.
The Rally was practically washed out a heavy unseasonal downpour and the leaders later presented to the Parliament a petition from workers.
