The same court which condemned the three men is expected shortly to try the detainees whose release the guerrillas demanded when they took hostages. There are believed to be about 30 of them, held on charges of planting bombs in July. The executions prompted demonstrations in the city, with young people proclaiming their loyalty to President Hafez Al-Assad. A fourth raider, identified as the leader of the group, was killed during the raid by troops on the hotel. He was named as Zuheir Abou Hashisha, a Palestinian. The three hanged were named as Jabbar Darwish, an Iraqi , an two Palestinians fro Jordan, Mohammed Barqawi and Mutasem Jayyoushi.

Background: In Damascus, thousands of Syrians viewed the bodies of three guerrillas hanged in the capital's centre on Monday (27 September). The guerrillas staged a bloody raid on a hotel the day before.
SYNOPSIS: The three men met newsmen the night before they were hanged. They said they came from an Iraqi-based commando group called "Black June", to mark Syria's full scale intervention in Lebanon nearly four months ago. The two Palestinians and one Iraqi said they had been given orders in Iraq to carry the battle from Lebanon into Syria itself. Their gallows were set up before the Hotel Semiramis, the scene of Sunday's (26 September) drama in which four of the guerrillas' 90 hostages were killed and 34 wounded.
Thousands of Syrians, including busloads of schoolchildren went to view the bodies. The hanging took place at dawn. But the bodies were left hanging for four hours and the busy intersection was clogged with morning rush hour traffic and curious sightseers. The speedy retribution handed down by the higher security court stressed Syria's determination not to let its foes conduct a campaign of violence there.
