Background: Mr. K. Kamaraj, the man responsible for giving a new image to the Indian political scene in the wake of his now known "KAMARAJ PLAN" assumed charge of the ruling Congress Party as its President as he moved into its office in New Delhi today. For the first time perhaps since Independence the ruling party has a strong and powerful personality to take away some lustre from the Governmental positions held by top leaders. And the first act of the Congress President on assuming charge was to call on the ailing Prime Minister Nehru and discuss with him possible changes and additions to the cabinet. The capital of India has been rife with all sorts of rumours about possible nomination of a Deputy Prime Minister or of a successor to Mr. Nehru. There is indeed a strong newspaper leak campaign almost to find out what is going on behind the scenes. Mr. Nehru is meanwhile reported to be progressing well and taking more interest in the state activities.
