    A 3-week Brussels conference on economic matters connected with independence for the Belgian Congo - to be granted June 30 - ended May 16 with a speech from Minister for Congo Economic Affairs Scheyven. Presiding at the meeting was Belgian Minister of Justice Lilar and also present were delegates from Ruanda-Urundi, bordering the Congo to the east.

    M. Scheyven said the eyes of the world would be on the Congolese after independence. For progress, the Congo would need international aid, and public order would have to be maintained.

    A new Congo ministerial post has just been create - M. van der Meersch has been appointed Minister for General Affairs in Africa, making a total of three ministers for African affairs. More Belgian troops are to be sent out to strengthen Belgian Government authority in the Congo.
