Background: India's ruling Congress party, has been under storm since the issue of Commonwealth Premier's communique which took notice of the healthy statements of Indo Pak leaders for settlement of Indo-Pak disputes. Most of the opposition parties with the exception of right wing Swatantra party have threatened to raise the question violently at when the Parliament reassembles. Several of them have demanded India to break from the Commonwealth while extreme elements in the Congress Party have termed it as a diplomatic victory for Pakistan and India's first defeat in international politics since Mr. Nehru left. At a meeting of the party in New Delhi today held at the Parliament House, Mr. Lal Bahadur Sashtri the Prime Minister presided, while Indian delegates Mr. T.T. Krishnamachari and Mrs. Indira Gandhi were there to explain their position and the spirit of the joint communique.
The meeting also discussed the continuous rising trend in the prices of essential commodities and the unrest that it is creating all over India.
