Background: An aircraft carrying the cream of Denmark's soccer players, crashed soon after leaving Copenhagen's Kastrup airport, July 17, killing eight. The chartered aircraft developed engine trouble after taking-off into heavy rain and pilot Vindeloev, was unable to make an emergency landing.
Out of control it turned over and crashed into 3ft of water on the beach about 50 yards outside the airport. Frogmen were used to recover the dead and injured from the wreckage.
The players were on their way to Jutland for a training session. Several of the dead would certainly have been members of the Danish Olympic soccer team to go to the Rome Olympics later this year.
